In the postcolonial African literary history, the strength of East African Literature has been comparatively weak, but it is not really an infertile land. Eastern African literature in English was just in a budding status in 1960s, but its creating achievements have been increasingly abundant since 1970s. By teasing the creation of the representative writers in English in Eastern Africa from 1960s to 1990s, it can be seen that the Eastern African literature in English mainly consisted of nationalistic tradition in 1960s and 1970s, the poetic tradition of the Okot Group and the Illusion Literature, and it contained mainly the writings of diaspora literature as well as writings about African history and tradition in 1980s and 1990s. At present, more and more writers of Eastern Africa and their works have been acknowledged in the world, showing that Eastern Africa literature in English has already gone out of Africa toward the world.20世纪60—90年代东非英语文学的历史嬗变20世纪60—90年代东非英语文学的历史嬗变
