As one of the four ancient civilizations, Egypt boasts long history and prosperous civilization. Egyptian literature can trace its origin back to 1700BC. Egyptian literature started to be introduced into China since last 50's. The translations mainly consist of short novels and political essays, lacking literary studies and reviews. After 1980's, works of many important temporary writers were introduced into China, the category of translations has been widened greatly. And after Naguib Mahfouz won Nobel Prize in Literature in 1988, the focus of Chinese researchers has shifted to his works. In general, the trans lation and introduction of Egyptian literature has yield fruitful results while some problems still remain.
